For graduate chapters within Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, one of the highest honors a member can receive is the title of Soror of the Year. This member, chosen by other members of her chapter, exemplifies what it means to be of service to all mankind and sisterly to all chapter members.

Gamma Nu Omega Chapter’s Soror of the Year for 2023 is Soror Shanea Riley!

Soror Shanea is a stickler for implementing services in our community. She keeps a smile
on her face and she gets things done to make our chapter look good…to make us Soar!
She single-handedly implemented the Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP) program with Arden Elementary in October 2022 under our new Soaring to Greater Heights of Service & Sisterhood: Empower Our Families initiative. Every month she goes out and purchases the food for the power packs, loads up and unloads the food, and locates places in the sorority house to store the food. Every week she goes to the sorority house to pack up the food and delivers 65 power packs to Arden Elementary. She does all of that whether she gets help or not. She never complains! She’s making us Soar!

For the past two years, if she wanted to deliver a health care service to the residents in our community, she went knocking on the resident's doors to let them know what we were doing and that this service would be for them. We are so grateful for the Mobile Mammography Clinic she brought to our community because it literally saved the life of one of our chapter members. This member had been seeking a mammogram during the pandemic from her provider and experienced several cancellations of her appointments. This activity got her in for an appointment on December 31, 2020, where her cancer was discovered. Our chapter member had surgery and is now cancer free. We are grateful for Soror Shanea. We have all experienced firsthand her loving spirit and how she places the needs of others as a top priority. She is always willing to go the extra mile to provide Service to All Mankind, especially when it comes to lending a hand to her Sorors.
